I was recently rejected by a business mastermind group that I applied to.
 
Not ideal, but it was a learning experience. 
 
So I wanted to share lessons I learned from one of life's greatest teachers, REJECTION.
 
My personal feelings.
 
How I relate this experience to our profession.
 
And why I’m proud of myself after getting rejected.
 
If you live a life that stays clear of rejection then you’ll never get anywhere. 
 
Because 9/10 times, the things you want will come after discomfort. 
 
I think this may be one of my most valuable episodes yet.

What you are trying to do is different and very difficult!
 
The path of least resistance would be to take insurance. 
 
And since you don't, if you don’t know how to communicate why you’re charging more money and not taking insurance, then your patients never will.
 
Do your patients know why you don’t take insurance?
 
Do they know why you’re more expensive?
 
What do they think? 
 
Who are they comparing you to?
 
These are a few of the questions you NEED to answer if you want to outperform the market that’s filled with insurance-based clinics.
 
If you give the type of care other chiros do then take insurance.
 
If not, then this episode is for you.

How would I take someone from zero to running a thriving practice?
 
Well, you have to be world-class clinically and world-class business-wise.
 
But it all starts with the thing in between your ears. 
 
Mindset!
 
If you can’t master that, then sales, treatment, marketing, and all the other aspects don’t matter.
 
A growth mindset that manages expectations is essential. And one that doesn’t compare yourself to the other chiros more successful than you will unlock the ability to execute your sales and marketing strategies properly.
 
Then you have to focus on what got you here, your clinical skills.
 
Understanding how to do an assessment, soft tissue work, progressive exercises, and everything in between is how to create a service you can truly profit from.
 
Create a package of treatment that will help people, and be able to communicate that service to people who need it. 
 
Now you're in business.
 
This is the process that got me to where I am today.

How many times have you heard me say, “If you want to grow your business, you need to raise your prices?”
 
A lot I’m sure…
 
But before that happens, you can’t charge premium prices if you’re not a premium clinician.
 
So in this episode, I interview one of the best clinicians I know, Dr. Jeremy Dinkin.

Another clinical course will not help your business.
 
Look, I know that enhancing your clinical skills is very important. Having the discipline to constantly keep growing and learning is super valuable. 
 
Learning more techniques and exercises is great and all, but it won’t help you grow your business. 
 
If I were starting over and had to get to my first $10k month, I wouldn’t invest in a clinical course. 
 
As I said, clinical skills are always going to be the foundation of running a rehab practice. However, you can’t build a house with just a foundation. There are walls, doors, and windows that need to be added.
 
In this context, those features would be business skills like marketing, sales, and operations.
 
So this week I share with you how I’d build my business if I had to start over tomorrow. Laying out the sales, networking, mindset, and marketing tactics I’d implement.
 
There are ten steps I’d take if I wanted to get to my first $10k.

There was a time when I decided to open a second practice out of a gym. 
 
And it was fine, I mean nothing bad happened. But nothing good happened either, because all it did was distract me.
 
I kept working the same amount of days but my interest, focus, and energy became scattered.
 
I didn’t see a bump in revenue either, just an increase in headaches.
 
Because it turns out I didn’t need a second office to make more money. I needed to optimize and refine the practice I was already running. 
 
I needed to enhance its marketing, sales, and treatment to the best they could be.
 
So one practice could maximize its potential.
 
Now that same practice does close to 7-figures a year.💸
 
But this isn’t only a story from my career, it's an experience many other healthcare entrepreneurs go through.
 
I learned the hard way, a second practice won't always make you more money.
 
However, this episode isn’t about talking you out of opening a second location.

When starting your practice, getting your own space seems great. However, it’s not what I recommend to new entrepreneurs.
 
It’s important to minimize your expenses, build your network, and invest money in business education first. 
 
And if you buy your own office space, it’ll be hard to do those things.
 
I see a lot of people start out and pay for things that look great but won’t necessarily help grow their business. 
 
A huge facility with 6 treatment rooms and turf is nice, but it won’t make you money.
